We had a fruitful discussion to collaborate GIBF and Mauritius to explore different business opportunities and trade between two countries.

ABOUT Mauritius

Mauritius, officially known as the Republic of Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean. It is located 2000km away towards the southeast of the African continent, east of Madagascar. It includes the main island (also called Mauritius), as well as Rodrigues, Agaléga and St. Brandon. These islands of Mauritius and Rodrigues with nearby Réunion (a French overseas department), are part of the Mascarene Islands. Port Louis, is the capital and largest city. It is located in Mauritius, where most of the population is concentrated. The country spans 2,040 square kilometers and has an exclusive economic zone (EEZ) covering 2.3 million square kilometers. It is also a very lucrative tourist destination.

Business Opportunities in Mauritius

The World Bank classifies the country as a high-income economy. Mauritius is the only African country to be considered as “very high” on the Human Development Index. It is also ranked as one of the most competitive and developed countries in the African region. Owing to its EEZ as well, Mauritius does provide a plethora of opportunities for those who wish to take a dive.

Another 24% percent belongs to the apparel industry which also includes clothing accessories of both kinds: not knitted/crotched and knitted/crotched.

Source: TrendEconomy) Mauritius has an import strategy that is very sensible given their remote location. They import mineral fuels, mineral oils and its by-products; these account for 15% of their imports. Vehicles, electrical machinery and equipment, sound recorders, TV image recorders and their accessories constitute of roughly another 21% of their imports.
